KEYSTONE WOODTURNERS

April Meeting – Wednesday 4/15/15, 7 PM

Keystone Woodturners is a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. We share the purpose of providing education and information to those interested in woodturning. The Club was founded in 1996 and has grown to over 60 members. We meet monthly on the third Wednesday of the month. Check out the other tabs on this website for examples of what we and our members have been doing and for other information about the Club.

Here’s our April Meeting Agenda:

Welcome: Les Bailey – President

Special Report: Our Wood Procurement Team

We need more high quality free wood to turn into items of beauty and to sell at our Wood Auction in May. Our Wood Procurement Team headed by Tom Sell is intended to do that. Tom will describe how it will work, what’s already been done, and how you can participate. If you’re not sure how to select, cut and preserve yard wood for turning, this is the Team to be on. You’ll get free wood while collecting some for the Club as well. You must be a member of the Club to be on the Team.

Demo:  Techniques, Features and Jigs – Keystone Members
A group of four vases and bowls on display.

One of the wonderful things about Woodturners (our Club members especially) is their willingness to share their ideas and techniques with others. For our April Meeting our Members are being asked to bring at least one tip, technique, fixture or jig that they have found helpful to share with the Club. Our Vice President, Mike Kuterbach will try to fit everyone into the program.

Show and Tell and President’s Challenge

Show and Tell is the part of the program where our members get to show off their work. They bring in turnings they have completed or are working on and discuss design, techniques, materials, finishing, etc. There is always something to learn at these sessions and you will be amazed and inspired by what our members make! As part of this section, Members will show the bowl(s) they made in response to our President’s Challenge as described below.

As announced at our March meeting,  our President  Les Bailey has challenged each of our Club members to turn a bowl that can be part of our Club’s donation to the AAW’s Empty Bowls program that will be part of this year’s AAW (American Association of Woodturners)  Symposium in Pittsburgh, PA  on June 25-28, 2015. Bowls would be due at our April meeting (April 15, 2015). Bowls should be finished and can be of any size and wood species. Each bowl should have your name and Keystone Woodturners  on the bottom, inscribed with ink or burnt in with a pen burner.

The Center for Art In Wood Tour

By the time of our meeting, this Tour will have been completed. It is included here a as reminder to members who haven’t signed up yet. Carol Hall will describe the special tour she has arranged for us at the Center which will include the Stoney Lamar Exhibition as well as a Backstage Tour of the Center, This will take place on Saturday April 11. We will meet at the Center at 11 AM. The cost will be $ 5 per person and you may bring guests. You must sign up with Carol by email ([email protected]).

Raffle

We will have a Raffle at which Club members bring in tools they no longer need and wood they haven’t got around to turning and donate them to the Club. The Club sells raffle tickets ($1 each, 6 for $ 5). The winner of each draw gets their choice of an item in the raffle and the next ticket is drawn and the process repeated until all items are gone. You don’t have to be a Club member to participate in the raffle.

Dues – Club dues for 2015 are being collected by our Treasurer. Dues will continue to be $ 20.
