March Meeting – Wednesday 3/18/15

Unfortunately Harry Pye, our planned Demonstrator for this month, is recovering from pneumonia and will have to do his demonstration at a later date. Fortunately, our own Jim Kelly has agreed to do a demonstration in Harry's place. Although Winter is retreating and most of the snow is gone, with the growth of our Club (we are now up to 58 members) parking at Joe's will be a problem. Joe has arranged for us to park behind the Seven Stars Inn on Route 23 (263 Hoffecker Rd, Phoenixville, PA)  which is a short drive from Joe's. Once at the Inn we can car pool to Joe's.

Here's the March Meeting Agenda:

Demo:  Color your world with Analine Dyes – Jim Kelly00V0V_aJil9cXLiss_600x450

Jim will be demonstrating the use of aniline dyes to color your turnings. Once you have mastered the art of not dying your woodwork, it's worth a shot to try to add some color. Jim will cover preparation, color mixing, application and finishing.

Show and Tell

Show and Tell is the part of the program where our members get to show off their work. They bring in turnings they have completed or are working on and discuss design, techniques, materials, finishing, etc. There is always something to learn at these sessions and you will be amazed and inspired by what our members make!

Wharton Esherick Competition and Presentation

Paul Eisenhower, Curator of the Wharton Esherick Museum will be present to award Museum Memberships to the Turners who completed the pens from Wharton's Oak tree which had to be taken down last year. He will also provide information on the Museum's Annual Woodworking Competition. This year the theme is Vases.

The Center for Art In Wood Tour

Carol Hall will describe the special tour she has arranged for us at the Center which will include the Stoney Lamar Exhibition as well as a Backstage Tour of the Center, This will take place on Saturday April 11. We will meet at the Center at 11 AM. The cost will be $ 5 per person and you may bring guests. You must sign up with Carol either at our March meeting of by email (carol@seaglass.us).

Raffle

We will have a Raffle at which Club members bring in tools they no longer need and wood they haven't got around to turning and donate them to the Club. The Club sells raffle tickets ($1 each, 6 for $ 5). The winner of each draw gets their choice of an item in the raffle and the next ticket is drawn and the process repeated until all items are gone. You don't have to be a Club member to participate in the raffle.

Dues – Club dues for 2015 are being collected by our Treasurer. Dues will continue to be $ 20.

We meet at  Joe McCann's shop  (610-331-2372)

His shop is located behind his house at:
