June 2017 Meeting


Keystone Woodturners

Keystone Woodturners is a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. We share the purpose of providing education and information to those interested in woodturning. The Club was founded in 1996 and has grown to over 70 members. We meet monthly on the third Wednesday of the month. Check out the other tabs on this website for examples of what we and our members have been doing and for other information about the Club.

Welcome by Bob Zrebiec, President Keystone Woodturners…brief notes of interest to all members.
Demonstration  Dave Souza “Log to lathe”

Dave is a founding member of the Keystone Woodturners and provides technical information at many of the club’s meetings.   Dave’s day job for over 25 years is Senior Financial Coordinator at Lansdale School of Business.  
Dave will demonstrate for us how to evaluate and then cut a log for optimum use of the wood into turning blanks for bowls, platters or other items and how best to mount those blanks safely on the lathe.

David Ellsworth Demonstration set for July 1, 2017

David Ellsworth will demonstrate Saturday July 1, 2017, from 9AM to 4PM.  Fee for members is $40 payable at the June meeting.   A light lunch is included in the $40 fee. 
 

Community Service Projects Committee Report

The committee donation updates:

  • The Mill at Anselma in Chester Springs, PA.  The mill, which will be in full operation and open for visitors on Saturday, June 10th, was in use from 1747 – 1932.  This week several club members delivered ten “ball and cups” and ten whistles for their Colonial Children’s Day on June 10, 2017.  

 

   


 

 

  • The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation in Ridley Creek State Park is an authentic living history site with the purpose of enhancing understanding of 1760-90 farm life.   The committee donated approximately ten reproduction spoons/spatulas for use in their colonial kitchen. 

 


 

 

  • The committee donated a bowl and pen and pencil set to the Bridge of Hope for their June golf outing fundraiser


  • Donation of two bowls to Cuddle My Kids for their fund raising silent auction.
