Keystone Woodturners

Keystone Woodturners is a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. We share the purpose of providing education and information to those interested in woodturning. The Club was founded in 1996 and has grown to over 60 members. We meet monthly on the third Wednesday of the month. Check out the other tabs on this website for examples of what we and our members have been doing and for other information about the Club.

July Meeting

Our meeting this month will be held at Joe’s shop on July 15, 2015 beginning at 7 PM.

Meeting Agenda:

Pre-Meeting Wood and Anchorseal Sale (7 -7:15 PM)

Our Wood Procurement Team has been very busy accumulating some great wood, fresh cut Sassafras, Maple, Cedar, Hackberry, Birch and Black Locust. The wood has been labeled and one end has been sealed. The wood will be sold for our usual great prices. We will also be selling Anchorseal II, bring your own container.

Welcome: Les Bailey – President

Show and Tell and President’s Challenge

Bring in your latest work and show it off.  Les has established a President’s Challenge for each Club member to make a Beads of Courage Bowl for our September meeting.

Demonstration –  This month’s meeting will feature two great demonstrations

  • 1.    The Science of Wood – Don Finn has offered great comments in several meetings about the mysteries of wood and has been persuaded to give us a presentation on wood. He will take a deeper look into North American hardwood and  into the tree itself. He will look at the hardwood tree cells and from there, discuss how these cells affect the structure and function of wood. He will then go into drying defects caused by the reactions of these cells to environmental conditions and why defects occur. He will also discuss how to seal wet wood to minimize cracking and splitting
  • .A group of four vases and bowls on display.
  • 2.      Battle Tops – Rob Shafer will demonstrate how to make a battle top and the rules for our upcoming completion.
  • A group of four vases and bowls on display.

Raffle

Pat McBride  will be conducting our usual raffle, so bring in your spare wood (some of our Wood Procurement Team’s wood will be raffled as well), and surplus tools, donate them to the Club and give other members the chance to put them to use while increasing our Club Treasury.
