February Meeting – Postponed until Wednesday February 25, 2015 7 PM

Our February meeting has been postponed until February 25. Hopefully Winter weather will allow meeting on this revised date. Parking at Joe’s is still expected to be a problem. To counter this problem we will be using the Parking Lot behind the Seven Stars Inn on Route 23 (263 Hoffecker Rd, Phoenixville, PA) and will car pool to Joe’s. Our meeting will start at 7 PM so try to arrive by 6:50 PM to assure a ride.

This site will be updated early next week to advise of any changes to the meeting.

Here’s what’s on the agenda for our February meeting:

Demo – Turning a Natural Edge Bowl – Tom Buchner

This months demo will feature Tom Buchner of Lehigh Valley Woodturners. Tom will demonstrate how to turn a Natural Edge Bowl. His demo will feature wood selection and techniques to get a nicely balanced rim as well as turning and finishing tips.

A group of four vases and bowls on display.

Show and Tell

Vice President’s Top Challenge – All Club Members were challenged to turn and decorate a top in November. The completed tops will be shown at the February Meeting. They will be of many designs and enhanced with chatter work, burned lines, colored bands, etc.

Our regular Show and Tell will also be held where members bring in turnings they have completed or are working on and discuss design, techniques, materials, finishing, etc. There is always something to learn at these sessions and you will be amazed and inspired by what our members make!

Wharton Esherick Museum Pen Project

Five Club members responded to the Museum’s request to convert wood from Esherick’s favorite oak tree that had to be taken down last year into 100 pens as gifts for Museum Volunteers and for sale at its Gift Shop. The Business Manager from the Museum will be at our meeting to thank the Club and to award Museum Memberships to the project participants.

Raffle

We will have a Raffle at which Club members bring in tools they no longer need and wood they haven’t got around to turning and donate them to the Club. The Club sells raffle tickets ($1 each, 6 for $ 5). The winner of each draw gets their choice of an item in the raffle and the next ticket is drawn and the process repeated until all items are gone. You don’t have to be a Club member to participate in the raffle.

Dues – Club dues for 2015 are being collected by our Treasurer. Dues will continue to be $ 20.

We meet at  Joe McCann’s shop  (610-331-2372)

His shop is located behind his house at:
387 Hallman Mill Road
Phoenixville 19460.

Visitors are welcome, so if you have an interest in woodturning, come on out to our next meeting and check us out! If you come, bring a folding chair. If you have any questions, please reply to this email or contact:
