Keystone Woodturners October 2015 Meeting

Our October Meeting will be held on Wednesday October 21, 2015, starting at 7 PM

This Month’s Demo – Segmented Vessels – Alex Worcester

Club Member Alex Worcester will demonstrate the construction of segmented bowls and vessels using three different techniques.  He will start with the “bowl from a board” technique of cutting and stacking solid rings.  He will then focus on cutting trapezoidal segments used to build horizontal rings.  Finally, Alex will discuss the construction of stave segments which can be used independently or in conjunction with segmented rings.  Although time will not allow for a demonstration of turning each of these types of vessels, Alex will discuss how it differs for traditional bowl turning.

The meeting will also feature a Show and Tell Segment where Club members get to show their latest work and describe how each piece was constructed and finished and describe any problems encountered and how they were overcome. This segment is always inspirational and enlightening. This month’s Show and Tell will feature the latest bowls made by members for the Beads of Courage Program for children with cancer. Check out the Gallery section of this websites for pictures of bowls previously submitted in July and September.

The meeting will also have a Raffle. Club members bring in unused tools and wood, donate them to the Club and the Club sells raffle tickets to Club members and Guests. This is always a very popular segment.
